Austin Atkins, MPAS, PA-C, is one of the dedicated founders and practitioners at Homegrown Healthcare. Born and raised in Lake Jackson, TX, Austin is a proud third-generation resident with deep roots in the community. Inspired by his parents' and grandparents' service to the area, he has committed his career to making a positive impact through healthcare.
Austin began his medical journey by earning a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care from Texas State University. Following his graduation, he gained invaluable experience over four years as a Respiratory Therapist, working in the Adult ICU at Seton Williamson County and in Pediatrics at Dell Children’s Hospital in the Austin area.
Austin furthered his medical expertise by obtaining a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. During his clinical rotations, primarily based in the Houston area, he discovered a passion for primary care through hands-on experiences in rural medicine settings. This exposure solidified his desire to pursue a career in primary care, where he could build lasting relationships with patients and address a wide range of health concerns.
Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at a young age, Austin has a personal understanding of the challenges chronic health conditions can impose. This experience has shaped his approach to medicine, focusing on identifying and addressing the root causes of health issues rather than merely treating symptoms. His dedication to understanding the underlying problems in his patients' health drives his commitment to providing comprehensive and personalized care.
Driven by a passion for health and fitness, Austin has recently focused on regenerative medicine, particularly peptide therapy and hormone balancing. Peptide therapy, an emerging field, explores the use of specific peptides to potentially influence various biological processes and promote healing. Austin's holistic approach aims to help patients achieve optimal health and wellness through innovative and personalized treatments.
What Austin loves most about practicing primary care in Brazoria County is the variety and challenges each day brings. He thrives on helping his patients become the best version of themselves and is always ready to tackle new health challenges.
Outside of his professional life, Austin enjoys spending time with his family, especially his son Wyatt. His hobbies include hunting, spoiling his dogs, and engaging in yard work. He takes pride in finding creative ways to cook the wild game he hunts and enjoys night-time hog hunting with his dad and his favorite Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Doc Holliday.
Under Austin’s leadership, our practice is dedicated to providing exceptional primary care and embracing the latest advancements in regenerative medicine to improve the health and well-being of our community.
